If you are new to patchwork and quilting you may wonder whatever sashing is. Everyone seems to talk about sashing and borders.

Think of your patchwork quilt as being made up of pictures. In patchwork we call these blocks. A block is often enhanced by the use of a frame and that is what sashing is - the strips of fabric that go between the blocks and act as a frame. Not every quilt will have sashing but it is very commonly used between blocks and gives those blocks definition.
