One could ask what makes anyone want to make their first patchwork quilt.
For some there is almost a compelling attraction to make a patchwork. It is such fun designing a project and gathering together the different fabrics to create a unique quilt.
Many start because they have a friend who already sews and it is a wonderful way of meeting other like-minded patchworkers. You can go along and see others stitching away and somehow the ideas just flow when there are a number of creative people sewing together. In a quilting group there are usually enough people to sort out any query a novice sewer may have and it is always good to learn from one another.
There is a wonderful satisfaction born from producing something attractive and to pass this on as a gift is doubly rewarding.
Creating a patchwork quilt is producing an heirloom of the future.
